Jets sign RB Greene to 4 yr deal

The Jets yesterday agreed to terms with running back Shonn Greene, their third-round draft pick and 65th overall player chosen in the April draft. Greene signed a four-year deal that includes a $905,000 signing bonus.

That makes the Jets 3-for-3 on signing their draft picks and training camp doesn't begin until July 30. The Jets last week signed No. 1 pick Mark Sanchez to a blockbuster five-year, $50 million deal. Continue

Jets trade up for RB Shonn Greene

As Shonn Greene made the two-hour drive to Jets headquarters from his home in Sicklerville, N.J., his mind drifted back to the fall of 2007.

He was working in a furniture warehouse in Iowa, unable to play football because of low grades. Instead, he'd walk past the TV showing his Hawkeyes teammates and wonder whether he'd ever realize his NFL dream.

Jets serious about trading up

With the 17th pick in Saturday's NFL draft at Radio City Music Hall, the Jets won't be on the clock until around 6:30 p.m. If GM Mike Tannenbaum gets his way, it will be a lot sooner.

Still hot for USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, the Jets are interested in trading up, and they might be willing to go up higher than most draftniks are anticipating. They have talked to the Browns (No. 5) about swapping places, league sources said Friday. Jets may trade up on draft day

Jet GM Mike Tannenbaum smiled at the question posed at last week's pre-draft news conference, dealing with his propensity for trading on draft day.

Entering his fourth NFL Draft as GM, Tannenbaum has gained a reputation for moving up and down in the draft to grab players such as Darrelle Revis, David Harris and Dustin Keller.

This year, he might add to that resume.

Wide receiver is a glaring need, and the Jets have to look long and hard at grabbing a receiver with their first-round pick, the 17th overall. Making the decision tougher is the belief that the top two receiving talents -- Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin -- will be long gone by then. The Jets spent the free agency period signing and trading for players to bolster their defense. In the draft, the focus now likely will shift to the offense.

The retirement of Brett Favre and the departure of Laveranues Coles to Cincinnati mean the 2009 Jets offense is going to look much different than the 2008 version. Jets working out Kansas state QB

The Jets, who could pick a quarterback with their first-round choice (17th overall) in next month's draft, are sending a contingent to Manhattan, Kas., to meet and work out Kansas state's Josh Freeman, according to NFL.com.

Today, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will have a "chalk talk" classroom session with Freeman. Tuesday, coach Rex Ryan and GM Mike Tannenbaum will be there for a private workout with Freeman, a 6-6, 250 strong-armed passer who reminds many of Daunte Cullpepper. Continue

Jets showing interest in USC QB Sanchez

The Jets, perhaps in the market for a quarterback of the future, have scheduled a private workout with USC's Mark Sanchez, according to the Los Angels Daily News. The workout will occur before his April 1 pro day.

Sanchez is generally regarded as the second-best quarterback prospect in the April draft, behind Georgia's Mattew Stafford. The Jets are picking 17th overall, and there's a chance Sanchez could be available.

Currently, the Jets have a wide-open quarterback competition between Kellen Clemens, Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge, all of whom carry question marks. Continue
