Jets release Favre

Although it's really been over since January, Brett Favre's ballyhooed stint as a Jet came to an official end yesterday when the team released the Hall of Fame-bound quarterback from the reserve/retired list.

That means, should Favre decide he wants to play again, he is no longer the Jets' property and is free to sign with any team.

"Brett requested his release some time ago," Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said. "He has not indicated any desire to return to football and he remains retired. We wish him the best." Continue

Who will Sanchez throw to?

The Jets landed their quarterback. Now they face the question: Whom is he going to throw to?

That question is the biggest one surrounding the Jets right now and surely prompted the call from the team last week to the agent of former Giants receiver Plaxico Burress. Jets trade up for RB Shonn Greene

As Shonn Greene made the two-hour drive to Jets headquarters from his home in Sicklerville, N.J., his mind drifted back to the fall of 2007.

He was working in a furniture warehouse in Iowa, unable to play football because of low grades. Instead, he'd walk past the TV showing his Hawkeyes teammates and wonder whether he'd ever realize his NFL dream.

Yesterday he got the answer. The Jets selected the running back with the first pick in the third round yesterday after trading three picks to the Detroit Lions to move to that spot. Continue

Jets trade 2009 1st round and second round picks and the following players:DE Coleman, QB Ratliff, DB Elam to Browns for Clevelands 1st round pick (#5).

Mark Sanchez will have tons of pressure on him to perform. If he fails the Jets could be set back for quite some time.

Jets serious about trading up

With the 17th pick in Saturday's NFL draft at Radio City Music Hall, the Jets won't be on the clock until around 6:30 p.m. If GM Mike Tannenbaum gets his way, it will be a lot sooner.

Still hot for USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, the Jets are interested in trading up, and they might be willing to go up higher than most draftniks are anticipating. They have talked to the Browns (No. 5) about swapping places, league sources said Friday. Jets may trade up on draft day

Jet GM Mike Tannenbaum smiled at the question posed at last week's pre-draft news conference, dealing with his propensity for trading on draft day.

Entering his fourth NFL Draft as GM, Tannenbaum has gained a reputation for moving up and down in the draft to grab players such as Darrelle Revis, David Harris and Dustin Keller.

This year, he might add to that resume.

Jets may seek WR in 1st round

Wide receiver is a glaring need, and the Jets have to look long and hard at grabbing a receiver with their first-round pick, the 17th overall. Making the decision tougher is the belief that the top two receiving talents -- Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin -- will be long gone by then. The words trigger bad memories of Johnny Mitchell, Kyle Brady and Anthony Becht, first-round disappointments from years past. The Jets have drafted 15 quarterbacks since the latter stage of the Joe Namath era, circa 1976, a seemingly perpetual search for The Next One. Of the 15, only one - one! - has produced a winning record as a full-time starter. Hint: He now plays for the Dolphins.
