Moore resigns with Jets

 Brandon Moore is back on the Jets' offensive line now that a deal for his replacement fell through.

The Jets re-signed the right guard Saturday to a four-year, $16 million deal a day after Pittsburgh left guard Chris Kemoeatu turned down an offer from New York and returned to the Steelers. Moore agreed to terms Friday after being cut Thursday by the Jets, who were due to pay the seven-year veteran a $7 million roster bonus under his former contract. Continue

Jets getting CB Sheppard from Eagles in trade

New York and Philadelphia are completing a trade that will send cornerback Lito Sheppard to the Jets while the Eagles will receive a 2009 fifth-round pick and a 2010 conditional draft pick.

The pick could be as high as a second-round choice in 2010 and as a low as a fourth. But the Eagles will get two picks and the Jets get Sheppard, who will be in New York Saturday for a physical. (Adam Schefter)

Great Scott! Jets land LB

After several hours of high-stakes negotiations with the Jets and Ravens, coveted linebacker Bart Scott has agreed to sign with the Jets, according to a league source.

The deal is believed to be for $48 million over 6 years, but the last year is an option.

The Jets can stop sweating. The two sides agreed in principle late in the morning, but Scott's agent rekindled talks with the Ravens, fueling speculation that Scott was going to jilt the Jets. (Daily News)

Jets release Moore

In the last two weeks, the Jets have made several moves to free up salary-cap space, with none of them particularly surprising. That streak ended late yesterday afternoon, on the eve of free agency, when they released guard Brandon Moore.

Moore, who started 73 consecutive games, was due a $7-million roster bonus by March 5, and the Jets wanted to restructure his contract. Moore and his agent were not as interested in doing so and, although the parties spent the last week negotiating, no deal was reached. Continue

Jets release Coles

The Jets are planning to release WR Laveranues Coles, according to a league source.

The team hasn't made the announcement yet, a a source close to Coles confirmed that his release is imminent.

The move doesn't come as a surprise, considering Coles is due to make $6 million - all guaranteed. It was to be the final year of his contract and Coles told the Jets he wanted a long-term deal. The Jets balked, according to the source. Continue

Jets looking at LB Scott

Could it be possible that the Jets and Giants will be going after the same coveted linebacker in free agency?

Though it's likely that the Jets will be more aggressive in their pursuit of Ravens' linebacker Bart Scott, the Giants could show interest as well.

The Jets, having recently released David Bowens and Brad Kassell, might not re-sign free-agent-to-be Eric Barton, making them thin at linebacker. The team is seemingly positioning itself to make a strong run at Scott or veteran Ray Lewis. Continue

Rex keeps up the rhetoric

It was Rex gone wild at the NFL combine.

The day he was hired to coach the Jets, Rex Ryan made the tabloid back pages by all but declaring, "We're going to the White House!"

Friday morning in Indianapolis, Ryan was at it again, filters off. And it started with the first question. Asked to discuss what he is "up against" as a newcomer to the AFC East, Ryan grinned. "I'd rather focus on what they're up against," he replied.

"We're going to have a team that's going to be a physical football team. We're not going to back down against any challenge. I understand and respect the conference. Any time you go up against Bill Belichick or Bill Parcells' team in Miami, or Buffalo ... we know it's very competitive." Continue

Jets looking to make run at Ray Lewis

On a day in which the Jets released one offensive stalwart, tight end Chris Baker, and moved close to unloading another, guard Brandon Moore, the ever-confident Rex Ryan predicted greatness for Gang Green's defense in 2009.

The new coach, speaking Friday at the NFL scouting combine, said the defense is only one or two players away from becoming as good as the vaunted unit he left behind in Baltimore. Continue

Bowens a Ray Lewis casualty

The Ray Lewis rumors got a lot louder Thursday night.

The Jets left themselves perilously thin at inside linebacker, releasing veteran backups David Bowens and Brad Kassell - moves that could mean they're clearing the deck to pursue Lewis or Ravens teammate Bart Scott, another inside linebacker.

"They must be targeting a linebacker, probably from Baltimore," Bowens said in a phone interview. Continue

Jets ready for combines

One would assume a "numbers guy" like Mike Tannenbaum would greatly enjoy the NFL combine, the league's annual predraft event in Indianapolis where many of the top collegiate prospects are repeatedly tested, timed, poked, prodded and graded.

The assumption is correct.

"I really do," the Jets general manager said in a telephone interview yesterday morning.

Tannenbaum, along with new coach Rex Ryan, leads the Jets contingent that heads to Indianapolis this morning. Also attending from the Jets are members of Ryan's coaching staff, the college scouting department and members from the team's medical department. Continue
